An honest answer to a
long question
What happens to your moments, today, in twenty years, and after
Every parent paying £75 a year to capture their child's story wants the same thing answered honestly: will this still be here when my child is old enough to want it?
Our answer is yes, and the rest of this page is the detail behind that answer
Where do my stories actually go?
While you're a BabyMoments customer, your stories live in encrypted, archive-grade storage hosted in the UK (London region, on Amazon S3 and S3 Glacier). Our primary storage is in London today and the location may change as we grow. They're backed up, they're private, and only you and the people you specifically choose can see them. We use industry-standard encryption at rest and in transit. We're GDPR compliant by design, not by retrofit.
What if I stop using BabyMoments?
Your stories don't disappear. We hold them safely for two years after you cancel, viewable for the first six months in full read-only mode, then archived for the remaining eighteen with the option to bring them back any time. Throughout that whole period, we send you clear notifications before anything changes. No silent deletion. No emails at 2am saying "your data is gone."
If you come back during those two years, your stories come back with you exactly as they were.
And if you decide BabyMoments isn't for you long-term, you have two real options:
A lifetime safekeeping option. If you ever do stop, you won't lose what you've made. When you cancel, we'll offer you a one-time option to keep everything you've already captured safe for twenty years, no subscription, no recurring anything. You won't be able to create new stories without an active subscription, but everything already in there stays viewable, shareable, and yours. After twenty years, you (or a family member you've nominated) can extend it again. You'll always have a way to hold on to your stories.
Or download everything and walk away. Export every story, video, photo, and transcript at any point, yours to keep on your own drive. The next question covers how.
Can I download my stories?
Yes, at any point, with one tap. You can export everything: videos as standard MP4 files, photos as JPEGs, the chapter structure as a JSON file you can read anywhere, transcripts as plain text. No special software needed to open any of it.
This is a right under GDPR (Article 20, if you want the chapter and verse), but we'd offer it anyway. Your stories belong to you. We're a storage and structuring service, not a vault that locks you out if you stop paying.
Export works whether you're an active subscriber, on lifetime safekeeping, in your two-year post-cancellation window, or a gift recipient who's never paid us a recurring penny.
Will you still be here in twenty years?
This is the question that matters most for a product like this, and it's the reason we charge what we charge, fairly, instead of taking the venture-backed route. Most apps in this category have to either go out of business, get acquired and have their data sold, or pivot to advertising. None of those are good for you.
We're a small UK company that prints books, pays for storage, and is built to be around for the long term. Your stories aren't a side product to us, they're the only product. We charge a fair price so the unit economics actually work, which is the simplest possible answer to the question of longevity.
And in the unlikely event we don't make it that long: lifetime safekeeping is structured separately from our day-to-day subscription business. The deeper details are in our terms, but the principle is that paid lifetime safekeeping should continue even if the company doesn't.
What if life changes: illness, loss, distance?
Your stories are designed to be kept beyond a single subscription, a single device, and even a single generation. Inside the app, you can nominate trusted people, a partner, a grandparent, a close friend, to receive your stories if you can't be there to share them yourself. You set a quiet check-in. If you stop responding to it, the people you've chosen receive what you wanted them to receive. Transparent to everyone, they know it exists, you know it exists.
For families navigating difficult moments, our customer support team is small but real, written to by humans, answered by humans. Get in touch and we'll work with you. Read more about how sharing works on the BabyMoments page.
Who can see my stories?
Only you, and the people you specifically choose to share them with. Sharing is opt-in, never opt-out. We never sell your data and we don't run ads. We may use content to improve our AI, but only after removing anything that identifies you, and never for advertising. We're funded by what you pay us, and that's the entire arrangement.
What happens to the books?
The printed book is something we're building, an optional add-on coming in 2026. When it does arrive, it's designed to be the most permanent part of all this: once printed, a book is yours to keep, and it doesn't depend on a subscription, an app, or even on us. The QR codes inside will resolve to a separate media bundle stored apart from your active account, so even if you cancel everything, the printed book and its QR codes keep working. That's the whole point of it.
What if I just want to read the policies?
That's fair, and they should be readable. Our Privacy Policy, Terms, and Cookie Policy are written to be understood, not to hide things. If you find something unclear, write to us, we'll fix it.
If something here doesn't answer the question you actually have, write to us at contact@babymoments.app. The team's small, the responses come from real humans, and we'd rather answer one specific question well than write a thousand-word policy that addresses everything and nothing.
